Description	With a single poem, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow created a national folk hero with his 1860 poem "Paul Revere’s Ride". Celebrating a small event in the struggle for greater freedom in America, this Revere figure, dressed in 1770s clothing complete with tri-cornered hat, represents both a mythic hero and the man. An accomplished silversmith, Revere actively gathered information against the British Regular Army before the American Revolution. On the night of April 18, 1775 he rode through the Massachusetts countryside to warn citizens that British soldiers were heading out on expedition.
