Description	Chilkat dancing blankets were made for men and women to wear, or give, at special Northwest Coast occasions. The art of Chilkat blanket weaving originated with the Tsimshian people but later spread to the Tlingit people through trade and marriage. Stylized patterns decorate the blanket and often represent clan symbols and natural forms in an abstract geometric pattern. Frances Bringloe created these types of dolls to educate people in Native cultures, as well as general American history. All of her dolls wear historically accurate and scaled clothing. This particular doll was made in the 1950s.
