Description	Moccasins are one type of traditional Native American footwear. Different types of moccasins were made for different climates and uses. Soft-sole moccasins were typically worn in Woodlands regions of the eastern United States where the ground was cushioned with leaves and pine needles. Hard-sole moccasins, like this pair, were made with stiff rawhide soles to protect the wearer’s feet from walking on sharp cactus needles and prairie grass in regions of the Plains. The particular style of this pair of moccasins, made for a little girl of the Kiowa tribe, is unique to the southern Plains region where moccasins and leggings were combined into a boot.
