Description	Lighter and easier to transport than books, scrolls have been used for centuries by different cultures all over the world. This beautifully painted scroll, by an anonymous Chinese artist, depicts 100 children playing with traditional Chinese toys and games. An adult man and woman are painted at the center of the scroll, surrounded by the children. Chinese scrolls like this one were often created by recognized artists and hung in homes for guests to sign. Used in many different forms in China since the Eastern Han period (25-220 AD), scrolls communicate written, pictorial and artistic messages. Although no longer used as the primary means for documenting text, scrolls continue to be an important art form in China today. This scroll was made during the Ch’ing Dynasty in 1824.
